The Report Library & Saving Reports

SearchLight now lets you shape your own report navigation. Instead of starting from one fixed list of reports, you can browse the Report Library, save the views that matter to you, and keep those reports close at hand in the left navigation.

What Is Changing?

Reports are becoming more flexible. The Report Library is the new home for available reports, and your saved reports are the shortcuts you choose to keep in your own navigation.

Think of a saved report as a named version of a report view. It can point to a standard report, or it can preserve a specific exploration after you have adjusted the report to answer a more focused question.

The Report Library

The Report Library gives you a single place to browse available reports and open the ones you want to work with. Each report starts from a curated base view, then you can customize and save the version that is useful for your role, workflow, or recurring meeting.

When you open a report from the library, SearchLight will show a prompt in the report header letting you save it to your reports. Once saved, it appears under Saved Reports in the left navigation.

Starter Kits

Starter Kits are prebuilt bundles of saved reports. They are designed to give you a useful starting point without making you build your navigation one report at a time.

The SearchLight Classic starter kit recreates the familiar core report set many teams already use: revenue, lead, conversion, performance, customer, benchmark, and advertising reports. It is a good choice if you want the standard reporting experience first, with the option to customize from there.

note

Applying a starter kit replaces your current saved reports — custom saved reports included — with the reports in that kit. If you want to keep the standard experience and customize from there, choose Keep the Defaults first and then save your customizations on top of it. If a kit was applied by accident, contact support: your previous report list can be restored.

Saving a Report

When you are viewing a base report, the report header can show a message that says Base Report. Customize and save to your reports. Use the Save button to add that report to your saved reports.

SearchLight will ask for a report title and optional subtitle. These labels are what you will see when you return to the report later, so we recommend naming reports by the question they answer or the audience they support.

Good Saved Report Names

  • Weekly Revenue Review for a leadership meeting view.
  • Google Ads Lead Quality for an advertising-focused version of a report.
  • CSR Follow-Up Watchlist for a recurring operations workflow.

Choosing a Date Range

When you save, you also choose the date range the report opens with:

  • Floating opens with whatever date range you are currently working in. This is the default.
  • Fixed always opens with the exact dates on screen when you save — useful for a specific month or campaign window.
  • Relative always opens with a rolling range like Yesterday or Last Month, recalculated each time you open it.

Fixed and relative reports also remember your comparison setting, so their comparisons mean the same thing every time you open them. Floating reports use whatever comparison you are currently working with.

Opening a Saved Report

A saved report always opens exactly as you saved it — the filters you have been using while browsing other reports are not layered on top. Likewise, filter or column changes you make inside a saved report stay there; they do not carry over to your other reports.

A saved report is also fully described by its own link, so you can share one directly with a teammate — what you see is what they'll open.

Updating a Saved Report

Saved reports are meant to stay useful as your questions get sharper. If you open a saved report and change its setup — filters, columns, or other report options — SearchLight will show an Unsaved changes message in the report header.

From there, you have three choices:

  • Update Report saves the current view back to the saved report you opened.
  • Save as New creates a separate saved report, leaving the original alone.
  • Reset returns you to the last saved version of that report.

If the report was saved with a fixed or relative date range and you change only the dates or comparison, the header shows Viewing different dates than saved instead, with the same choices. Updating keeps the style of date range you chose — a Last Month report stays relative after an update. Reports saved with a floating range simply follow your current dates, so date changes there never prompt you.

Tip: Save as New is the quickest way to copy a report with a different date range — for example, turning your Yesterday report into a Last 7 Days version.

Managing Your Saved Reports

Your saved reports appear in the left navigation under Saved Reports. When editing is available, use the lock button beside the heading to switch into edit mode. In edit mode you can drag reports into a new order; rename a report, change its date range, or delete it; or clear the whole list and start fresh.

This lets each user keep the reports they rely on closest to their day-to-day work. A leadership user might keep a concise weekly review list, while an operations or advertising user may save more focused views for investigation and follow-up.

When Should I Save a Report?

Save a report whenever you expect to return to the same view again. That might be a report you review every Monday, a version you use in a client or leadership meeting, or a focused exploration that took a few steps to set up and should not have to be rebuilt next time.

The goal is simple: your SearchLight navigation should reflect how you actually work.
